Take a look at my XMPP server automation project aenigma:
the | state-of-the-art | secure-by-default | one-touch-deployed | XMPP server for everyone.

For a chain reaction of causes our domain had expired and we were only now finally able to get it back and working again. From now on we should be ready for ~100% availability in the future.

@algernon I've integrated your Mastodon Docker backup script into a fully fledged and standalone project called Incognitum [] which supports automated encrypted offsite [S3] backups. It's based on our synthia/dna bash+git framework and it's currently running on this very instance's server with great results! Any thoughts? Interested in writing the restore part collaboratively? Thanks for your work.

Now working on a complete Mastodon backup automation project based on synthia/dna on the shadow of our openspace project raptor. Should be ready in about a week.

"Power plants that burn wood chips emit one and a half times the amount of carbon as those using coal, and three times as much as those using natural gas."

[aka a short reminder for those who still think that burning wood is a good idea]

This instance is now finally working again with MD v2.5.0, S3 storage, working backups, and usernames. All of the previous instance's data was lost due to a corrupt backup [tracking issues on GH]. Very sorry about that. You can find your old toots' text by searching google for " @username" [e.g. " @nz"], fetching the cached version, editing the URL to delete anything after "" [e.g. ""], and then pressing "text-only version". Let's do this!

How is it that 30% of Icelanders have guns and only one person has ever been killed by one in their entire known history, and yet it's guns that kill people?

And those wallet client hacks? Definitely says something about the security of the underlying "blockchain" doesn't it. Kind of like when your car has an engine problem it means that roads are no longer safe. *enlightening*

Mailpile is not vulnerable. I actually knew that before I even headed to their blog. The protocol is not the issue here, the fucky implementation is.

I'm 160kms off the coast of Iceland, which in and of itself - you know - isn't exactly the land with the highest density of cell towers, and yet I'm still connected to the internet, in HSDPA+, FROM INSIDE THE AIRPLANE. If I'm ever to try building a mesh network again, after two years spent fiddling with WiFi radios and their signal literally getting broken by cats walking in the way, it'll be in 5G. And if the protocol doesn't support meshing, we'll hack it. Forreal.
